Preview and Making-of Special with Brigit Lichtenegger
VolaVola erzählt Geschichten direkt aus dem Leben dreier Generationen, mit unterschiedlichen Sichtweisen auf das Leben in der heutigen Zeit, mit ihren verschiedenen Lebensstilen, Gefühlen und Ansichten. Im Verlauf des Films ver-
knüpfen sich die anfangs unverbundenen Handlungsstränge zu einer generationenübergreifenden Familiengeschichte.
Das Hauptthema von VolaVola ist der Wertekanon der digitalen Gesellschaft, der aus einer soziologischen (aber auch leicht surrealen) Warte aus betrachtet wird: aber keinesfalls aus einer futuristischen Sicht, sondern als menschliches Erbe, das es zu bewahren gilt, um die Erde lebenswerter zu gestalten.
In dem Gesamtprojekt VolaVola wird dasselbe Drehbuch zweimal umgesetzt: zuerst in Second Life als Animationsfilm mit der neuartigen Technik Machinima, danach in der wirklichen Welt mit traditioneller Filmtechnik und Darstellern aus Fleisch und Blut. Die Machinima-Version wird nicht einfach ein außergewöhnliches animiertes Storyboard sein, sondern ein eigenständiges Werk, so dass zwei eng verwobene Paralleluniversen entstehen.
Brigit Lichtenegger wird uns einen Preview des fertigen Machinima präsentieren und uns ausführlich erläutern, wie sich die Produktion von den traditionellen Formen von Trickfilm und Realfilm unterschieden hat. Wir hoffen, dass sie mit
lebensnahen Anekdoten vom Set nicht geizen wird.
Brigit Lichtenegger (a.k.a. Evo Szuyuan) ist Programmiererin und Künstlerin. Während der letzten Jahre arbeitete sie hauptsächlich an Filmen mit der sogenannten Machinima-Technik, also dem Erstellen von Computeranimationen mit Echtzeit-3D-Graphik. Sie wirkte als Machinimator für VolaVola/Fly Me und war verantwortlich für alle technischen Belange (Programmierung und special effects), die Nachbearbeitung des Filmmaterials und wirkte auch als Darstellerin mit. http://www.creativemachinery.org
VolaVola is a choral story which tries to describe the different aspects of contemporary life by comparing lifestyles, feelings and world views of three different generations.
As the story goes on, the main characters’ events, apparently unrelated at first, link so much with each other to eventually belong to the same family.
VolaVola’s main theme is the values of digital society as an important human heritage, analysing it from a sociological (although vaguely surreal) point of view, and not from a futuristic one, and considering them as one of the few things to protect in order to make the world a better place to live.
VolaVola is a project for the making of 2 movies from the same script, the first is shot entirely inside Second Life with the innovative technique of machinima and is an animation movie; the other will be made mostly in the real world with traditional technologies and players in flesh and bones.
The animated version will not only be the extraordinary storyboard of the movie but will have its own dignity, the two projects will be indeed strictly connected.
Brigit Lichtenegger will present a preview of the fresh finished machinima version of the movie. She will explain how the movie was made, and eloborate on how making machinima compares to animation and traditional filming techniques. She might also share some juicy anecdotes from the set.

Brigit Lichtenegger (a.k.a. Evo Szuyuan) is a programmer and artist. In the last
years her work has been focused on making movies using the so called machinima technique. Machinima is the use of real-time three-dimensional (3-D) graphics rendering engines to generate computer animation.
She was the machinimator For Fly me / VolaVola and responsible for all technical
needs (scripting, special effects). She also did the post processing on the final movie material, and is a character in the movie.
